Chapter 1 - Why this book?

Success begins in the mind

"When you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything." This is a phrase often used yet seldom understood. What is the mind? How is it possible to accomplish anything?

Look around you, and you will find individuals who have achieved great things in their lives. They may claim that they were merely lucky, yet you know that they have worked hard to achieve their goals.

Your goal, or purpose, must be your starting point; and your true goal must be concordant with the wishes of your unconscious mind. Many go aimlessly through life not knowing what their purpose is. Since they have no worthwhile goal to aim for, they are unlikely to achieve much. A lucky few come across their goal quite late in life. Only then do they recognise that this is what they were searching for all along.

You may be among those who find their way through trial and error, but the main elements of your success are no different from anyone else’s. You too have to work hard towards your goal, to focus, to be committed and determined, to use the power of will, to endure misfortune along the way and most importantly, to be patient.

This book is the result of fourteen years of self-questioning. I was looking for answers to the mysteries in my own life. How can I overcome my difficulties? Why do I feel this way? Where is it leading me? Where is the fairness in life? What is it that I can do? Who is going to save me?

In the course of my self-exploration, I discovered the astonishing abilities of my own unconscious mind. I was constantly drawn to searching within. Whenever I searched for knowledge I travelled into the darkness of the unconscious and these visits took me to the beginning of life and time where I discovered my innate understanding. All my personal questions led me to the universal questions of life.

All of us at some point during our existence ask for answers to the most fundamental questions. My studies inspired me.

Chapter 7 - Emotions

Applied emotion

Pure logic is your mind’s destiny. Your emotions must be applied purposefully, if you are to commence your journey towards your mind. They can be destructive if allowed to lead you but creative if correctly applied in accordance with the dictates of your mind.

Analysing your emotions is the first thing you must do when you weigh up the encounters you have through life. When you understand the way you really feel, you will eliminate many false moves and transform your future. Then you will be able to use your mind, brain and body to full capacity.

Your emotions make you sensitive and vulnerable, reacting instantaneously to the slightest suggestion; anything can trigger an emotional reaction, even a simple word or letter, number, colour or scent. Because of your emotions, these things may cause a reaction on any level – mental, physical or psychical. Your emotions can be taken over without your conscious awareness, so it is important to be self-aware and vigilant at all times. Once you understand how your emotions make you behave, you can understand how to change yourself. All you need is logic, analysis and action.

Think of a way you would like your behaviour to change. What was the emotion that led to the dysfunctional behaviour? When, where and how did this emotion manifest itself? What was its cause and what was its effect?

Redirecting your emotion to analytical thought is the only method for you to understand life. Use your emotions as a tool; they are not a curse but a gift. Handled with correct understanding and sensitivity, they become, not a burden, but a finely-tuned instrument designed to produce results. In this analysis of emotion lies a way to release your true potential. When you start to apply your emotions for greater understanding, your mind begins to thrive.

Chapter 19 - The Healing Mind

The search

There are a multitude of ways in which knowledge can be found and shared which has made you an expert. You can find out all there is to know about any ailment under the sun, and learn about people whose symptoms match your own and whose fears and experiences may be similar.

On the other hand, it is interesting to notice how very different those fears and experiences can be. They differ between individuals and between cultures. If you expect to feel ill in certain circumstances, you probably will; if you can consciously or unconsciously gain attention or advantage from being ill, you will be. I have seen people afflicted by the same ailment, which has progressed to the same point, yet whose resilience varies enormously. Feeling ill is very often an emotional decision. It may be an expression of distress or of self-indulgence but either way, there is no cure for it, because there is no cure for an emotional fault (except medication to suppress the emotion, which will probably make matters worse).

You may accept medication for your bodily ailments and find that its side-effects are worse than the illness itself. I have seen people who have persisted for years with medicines that were making them feel worse. It is hard to see why, but perhaps they were determined to be ‘good’ patients, obediently doing as the doctor ordered. This is an emotional decision, not a rational one.

Your mind, not your emotions, should be driving your journey along life’s path. You must accept that your body is there to serve and assist your mind, to make sure that your journey is completed in good health so that your mind can reach its objective. Your mind’s intention is to complete the journey having fully exploited all the powers of your mind, brain and body.

Attitude of mind is one thing that you can control, and it follows that you can use your mind to control the health of your own body. Allow your mind to identify negative emotional blockages and deal with them positively before they turn into physical trouble. Your journey through life can be hugely affected by your physical health. Learn to use your mind to get your body working well for you, and your objectives in life will be achieved without physical obstacles.

The book has been written out of Hratch Ogali's personal experience, and from 5 years working with individuals at The Mind Clinic many of whom have suffered from devastating neurological conditions.
